You’ve just been in a car accident and your injuries are minor, but you know you need to be seen by a doctor. You know you’re supposed to look for witnesses, but when you look around the scene, it appears that no one saw what happened. Fortunately, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you don’t have a case, and it doesn’t have to be your word against the other driver’s word. There are many sources for “eyewitness” accounts of your accident, and they don’t have to be human.
Neighboring Houses
This is one instance in which you’ll be thankful for nosey neighbors. Instead of just looking around on the street, take note of the houses that are in the area. Do you see anyone standing in any of the windows? Even if you don’t, it’s possible that one of the neighbors saw what happened when your accident took place. Later on, it might pay off for you to come back to the area where the accident occurred and knock on some doors to find out if anyone saw anything. You might be surprised to find one or two people who can tell you exactly what happened, which is excellent support for your side of the story.
Business Cameras
If your accident took place in an area where there are a lot of businesses around chances are pretty good that there is a surveillance camera system in place at that business. Video of the accident is the best evidence because videos never lie, so they offer tremendous support. In fact, many of the big name department stores have cameras that can cover several hundred feet from their front doors. If your accident occurred near a business, take some time shortly after the accident took place and pay them a visit. Ask about their video cameras and find out the steps that are necessary to see the tapes. ask a lawyer You might need the help of your attorney to get them into your possession, but it never hurts to just ask.
Street Cameras
Depending on where your accident happened, many larger cities actually have street cameras on many corners. You might be able to use footage from those cameras to support your story. Again, this footage makes excellent evidence because the truth will be obvious. Your attorney will know the proper channels to go through to be able to view these tapes.
When it comes to car accidents, any type of witness will be beneficial to your case. Don’t lose heart just because there didn’t appear to be anyone standing around who saw the accident happen. You still might be able to get your hands on some evidence if you think carefully about what or who might have seen it.
Evidence is very important, but an attorney is even more important to the success of your case. When you work with an experienced attorney, you’ll have the best chance of getting a good settlement. Don’t take the chance of taking on your own case. Talk with an attorney and get the results you deserve.
